Position Summary
The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston seeks a Development Director with proven leadership, strategic planning and organizational skills who will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to increase the annual campaign and financial resource development. Additionally, the Director will plan, implement and manage a portfolio of programs for the Federation.

In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, volunteers and professionals, the Development Director will lead both short- and long-term efforts focused on growing and enhancing fundraising through solicitations and programming events. He or she will work cross functionally to foster a culture of collaboration, excellence and support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Development

          • Develop and maintain multiple portfolios of segmented donors and prospects.
          • Meet annual fundraising targets by:
                  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors and prospects.
                  • Expanding new donor base, as well as focusing on the growth of donors within the portfolios.
                  • Individually cultivate prospects who not only have the potential to be donors to the Federation but who also have potential for leadership opportunities within the Federation and the Jewish community.
          • Review and evaluate current campaign and fundraising systems and processes, and, if necessary, restructure them to better meet the Federation’s mission and fundraising objectives.
          • Analyze and evaluate data to identify opportunities and develop a campaign plan for greater efficiency and efficacy in raising funds and increasing the donor base.
          • Identify, educate and motivate volunteers to actively participate in the annual campaign and programming.
          • Manage special projects within the Development Department.

Events

          • Plan and execute events and programs to enhance engagement and fundraising in the assigned portfolios in partnership with the Event Manager and Marketing team.
          • Create goals and metrics for all events.
          • Collaborate on Federation-wide events to ensure donor and engagement portfolios are included strategically and effectively.
          • Prepare and manage budgets for portfolio events.

Leadership and Collaboration

          • Create, organize and implement fundraising and leadership development strategies and tactics.
          • Work to support culture of development in the organization and work collaboratively across departments.
          • Participate in community activities and serve as a leadership role model in the community.
          • Promote the highest level of customer service to ensure donor satisfaction.
          • Recruit and train volunteer leaders as needed.
          • Maintain relationships with the professional staff of Jewish Federation of North America (JFNA).


Experience:

          • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience and success in a nonprofit fundraising role.
          • Prior experience working with volunteers and in the not for profit sector, strongly preferred. Prior experience working for a Jewish organization a plus.
          • Bachelor’s degree required.

          • A motivational communicator, both written and verbal, who is effective in 1-on-1 and group settings, as well as equally engaging with internal and external audiences.
          • A flexible perspective with the ability to work with processes and systems that are evolving and subject to change.
          • Understanding of the complexity of the volunteer/professional relationship and success managing those relationships in an effective and professional manner.
          • Knowledge of database systems and trends in utilizing technology in prospect identification and research.
          • Strong knowledge of Jewish community, culture and practices. Passion for the mission of Federation and the Jewish community.
          • Experience managing and developing budgets.
