The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Building a new performing arts center.
$54 million Capital Campaign goal.
When Dini Spheris began working with the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation, the vision and drive were powerful, but the campaign to raise the required private capital had yet to be conceived. The city of San Antonio and the people of Bexar County showed their support for revitalizing the heart of the River Walk with a performing arts center by approving a $100 million bond referendum in 2008. They also donated the historic Municipal Auditorium, including the land and buildings valued at $41 million. Although the public funds provided a huge impetus for the project, there was no nonprofit organization in place, no Board of Trustees, no civic leadership committed to the project, no development staff, and no plan for raising $54 million in private capital to make the performing arts center a reality.
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts has been a San Antonio vision over a decade in the making, and Dini Spheris has been there, helping them strategize and plan from the very beginning. With bold visions and determined community leaders, the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation and Dini Spheris have been working with organizational leadership, volunteers and staff to ensure these grand visions are soon reality for residents and visitors of San Antonio.
The Tobin Center is designed to expose the performing arts to people of all ages and income levels, and to serve as a flagship stop on the restored and expanded San Antonio River Walk. As the nation’s seventh-largest city, San Antonio had been lacking a crucial element in its arts and culture infrastructure. The Tobin Center is designed to fill that gap and serve as a world-class venue. The new facilities will benefit not only the adult masses, but projects over 1 million children will pass through its doors over the next 10 years – exposing them to the arts and the wide spectrum of proven academic benefits they bring.
Dini Spheris supported the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation, ensuring the necessary campaign fundamentals were established, and continues to provide counsel to the foundation’s staff and lay leaders as we close in on the final stages of the campaign. Sherry Boyles, Vice President of Development for Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, sums up our partnership, saying, “Dini Spheris has provided strategic support and a steady hand as we near the summit of our $54 million Capital Campaign goal.”
With an extensive history of working with San Antonio’s business and philanthropic leadership and our experience in guiding multi-million dollar public-private initiatives, Dini Spheris is honored to partner with the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation. Working together, our goal is to revitalize the heart of San Antonio with a beacon of creativity. In the fall of 2014, the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation will do just that, opening the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
