The Texas Hearing Institute is a nationally renowned resource for pediatric hearing loss in Texas. From birth to early childhood, THI’s experts partner with families to find the right solutions for each child through health services and spoken language education. THI is the only regional provider offering these services in a “one-stop-shop” and is proud to call Houston its home.
THI’s board and executive leaders built a long-range plan that called for a relocation from their former facilities on West Gray to a new building in the Texas Medical Center. With a new, larger facility, they could expand their services and double the number of clients served.
They set a goal of $22.5 million for their capital campaign, the largest in the organization’s history, which would provide funding for:
- Capital construction and equipment
- An expansion of programs and services
- An endowment for maintenance of the new location
THI’s executive director and development team recognized the need for fundraising at a scale, scope and speed they’d not undertaken in the past. While they had successfully led event-based efforts, the capital campaign required greater expertise in relationship building and major gifts. They partnered with us to provide strategic direction and hands-on implementation from initial planning through campaign completion.

Despite the challenges the Houston economy faced post-Hurricane Harvey, and the client’s internal staffing changes, we helped THI drive the $22.5 million capital campaign to success with four 7-figure gifts combined and many individual contributions to exceed their goal by $200,000.
