For many of us, recent days have felt like riding a roller coaster at break-neck speed. Change and uncertainty are the only constants. Each night we go to bed exhausted, only to wake up and find we’re in some version of Groundhog Day, doing the same thing over and over again.
In counseling clients, I find that often my purpose is to help them cut through the noise and fog to focus on the right next step, right now. Maybe “right now” is today, or this week, or this month. But it always boils down to: what is the right next step – the most essential thing – to do, so that everything else will fall into place? When we can boil it down to a clear focal point, instead of getting overwhelmed by ALL THE THINGS, we can be more confident that we are on the smart, efficient path to our goal.
Moral of the story: don’t lose sight of the path because you’re looking so desperately for the light at the end of this crazy tunnel. Take a breath, focus your mind and ask yourself, “What is the right next step, right now?”
