Lela Anne (Muffy) Buvens
“I have an idea; what if…?” Muffy often overcomes hurdles with those transformative words. A highly creative, intuitive consultant with proven analytical and strategic skills, Muffy understands what makes for fundraising success from the cultivation and care of donors to the inner workings and dynamics of the advancement team. With confidence, enthusiasm and credibility, Muffy inspires cohesiveness and collaboration toward a common goal. Her broad background in fundraising, marketing and team building have given her extensive experience managing committees, engaging donors, leading projects and articulating compelling cases for support.
For more than a decade, Muffy was intimately involved with the fundraising and event planning for the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and its Celebration of Reading in Houston and in Maryland. In 2015, Muffy joined the Institutional Advancement Office at the University of St. Thomas where she held positions ranging from special events to constituent engagement and serving as the interim manager of advancement.
Muffy believes in venturing “outside the box” when it comes to visioning and transformational fundraising. A graduate of Texas A&M, Muffy possesses a remarkable strength for creating a vision, communicating a strategy for getting there and making it happen. She has had the opportunity to develop strategic cases for support in capital campaigns for numerous organizations, including the Junior League of Austin, the Lone Star Flight Museum, Houston Public Library and Space Center Houston.
When Muffy is not fulfilling her passion for fundraising, this empty nester is usually recharging herself at home with her husband, nose buried in a great book and surrounded by her three beloved dogs.
