Dallas Zoo Begins Construction on $13.5 Million Hippo Habitat

Construction on the 3.5-acre Simmons Hippo Outpost at the Dallas Zoo has begun.  The immersive waterhole habitat will include a giant underwater viewing area.  The exhibit is scheduled to open in spring of 2017 and will be the first major exhibit since the award-winning Giants of the Savanna that opened in 2010.

The Simmons Hippo Outpost campaign was funded solely with private donations.  A $5 million grant from the Harold Simmons Foundation launched the project.
