HOUSTON — At the Star of Hope Women and Family Shelter on Dowling, downtown staff members were going into the supply closet to get all the extra mats.
On Wednesday night they expected an overflow crowd of 150 families—mostly women and children—to sleep on the floor.
A single mother who asked us to call her Sheila has a nice car but it makes a horrible home. She and her three children have slept in it before to get out of the cold.
