Barbara Bush’s 21st annual literary event, “A Celebration of Reading,” brings four high-profile authors — one of them with the last name Bush — to Houston’s Hobby Center on April 23 to benefit The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.

President George W. Bush will appear to talk about his bestselling memoir, “41: A Portrait of My Father,” which he describes as “a love story — a personal portrait of the extraordinary man who I am blessed to call my dad.” He’ll be joined by the prolific Jackie Collins, who has sold more than 500 million copies of her books in more than 40 countries; David McCullough, whose narrative histories on figures including John Adams and Harry Truman have earned him two Pulitzer Prizes and two National Book Awards; and Byron Pitts, the Emmy-winning ABC News anchor and correspondent who was illiterate until the age of 12 and chronicled his journey in the 2009 memoir, “Step Out on Nothing: How Faith and Family Helped Me Conquer Life’s Challenges.” Read more.
